I'm from Richmond, VA and when it came to choosing which school to go to, I had no idea. When I came to Longwood for my first tour, my mom said she could see me going to Longwood, and since Mom usually knows best, here I am!
When I first started at Longwood, my intentions were to become a Physical and Health Education teacher. After my sophomore year, I realized teaching really wasn't my passion, so I changed my Kinesiology concentration to Exercise Science. Throughout my time here, I've been involved in Baptist Collegiate Ministries, Longwood Ambassadors, Phi Epsilon Kappa, Mortar Board and I'm in my second year as a Resident Assistant. My senior year has approached so quickly and I'm trying to take in as many of the Longwood traditions as I can before I graduate in May.

This week was quite an eventful week!!  While I did have several quizzes, a test, and several assignments due, it was probably the least stressful week I’ve had all semester–crazy, right?  But there were also a lot of fun things thrown into the work this week!

Last Spring, as I was finishing up my first year as a RA (Resident Assistant), I was nominated to be a RA Mentor.  I was so excited to have been nominated, so of course I accepted and joined this group.  Throughout the 2011-2012, I have worked with the other RA Mentors to give back to the RAs and DAs (DA= Desk Aides) on campus.  One of the RA Mentor Committees is Programming–the RAs on this committee plan fun programs for RAs and DAs to attend, and pretty much come hang out with other RAs and DAs.
This month’s program was held in the Games/Rec area of the Student Union.  Over there, there’s a pool table, several pingpong tables and a 4 lane bowling alley!  Since I’ve been at Longwood, I’ve gone to hang out in this area but I’ve never bowled there. Well, I can cross that off my “to-do” list because on Tuesday, I bowled!!! It was so much fun to hang out with some of my greatest friends (yes, who are all RAs!!) and just relax!

Then came Wednesday, which in my mind was the first Friday of the week…why? Because the weather was SO nice, I was relieved that I had a quiz & test complete, and well, it just had that Friday feeling!  I started off the evening by enjoying frozen yogurt at Sweet Frog with one of my best friends, Emily, and then we went and met another friend, Kelsey, to go to LipSync!
What is LipSync, you might ask?  Well, all of the Greek organizations on campus put together a dancing/singing routine and perform it for everyone!  I hadn’t been to LipSync since sophomore year, but I had to go this year–my sister, fiancé, and many of my residents & friends were going to be performing so I couldn’t miss it!  All of the groups did FANTASTIC and I absolutely loved it!!!

Finally, Thursday!  First of all, this semester my supervisor played on one of the Longwood Intramural Basketball teams.  My friend Kelsey (see above), who I work on staff with, and I were able to go to one of his games several weeks ago and enjoyed going out to support him.  Well, his team made it all the way through to the championships, and then was set up to play Hampden Sydney’s team on Thursday night for the Farmville Cup!
Around 1:00 on Thursday, Kelsey and I had this great idea that we needed to make shirts before we went to the game so that we could really be supportive.  A couple hours later, we whipped up a couple tshirts so fast and kept a fan blowing on them for the rest of the day, to be sure they were dry in time before the game!
When we got to the Fitness Center for the game, we were glad to see several other people we knew who came out to support the team–and everyone loved our “TEAM GUCA” shirts, haha!  The game was so close and intense, went in to overtime, and to be quite honest, I was surprised I even woke up with a voice Friday morning from all the cheering I did!  To make the night even better, Longwood won!! yay!!  I had never been to an intramural sporting event before, but, yet again, that’s one more thing I can check off my “to-do” list!

As we now only have five, yes, can you believe it?- FIVE weeks left in the semester, I’m trying hard to participate in as many things as I can while I still have time left at Longwood.  Of course, I will be back in years to come to visit and such, but nothing will be as great as actually being a student at Longwood and experiencing everything with your friends.  Outside of the degree you leave with, THAT is what makes the college experience so worth it!
