As I prepare for my final sports broadcast as a member of WMLU 91.3 fm tomorrow night, I am reminded of just how far the station and sports committee has come in the 4 years I have been at Longwood. The people that I have met and had the opportunity to work with as Sports Director for 3 years were the reason I kept coming back, even when times were difficult.
The WMLU Sports ceased to exist when I came to Longwood freshmen year. Without the hard work of so many dedicated people these past 4 years (and you know who you are), the campus radio station would be without what has become one of its main attractions. Winning back-to-back awards from the Virginia Association of Broadcasters in 2009 and 2010 proved to anyone who doubted us, and believed in us, that we were serious about what we did covering Longwood Lancers athletics.
With my successor already in place, it will be bittersweet to leave behind the radio station where I got my start as an aspiring sportscaster. Nevertheless, I am confident that WMLU Sports is in great hands moving forward and I am proud of what I have been able to do as Sports Director and even more proud of those who have helped me along the way.
