Honor.
Honor is prestigious. Honor is special.
Honor is, well, honorable. Tonight, during our Mortar Board meeting, we had the pleasure of welcoming our new members. These 40 juniors will be soon taking the reams as leaders in this very honorable organization.
Tonight, I remembered back to a year ago when I was in their spots. On the opposite side of the room, facing the people who I admired academically. When we choose members, we look at their leadership and service potential in addition to being some of the best scholars and leaders on Longwood’s campus. They always make time to dedicate themselves to their Mortar Board chapter, the Longwood Geist Chapter.
Turning over the reins to new people is sometimes risky. Or, at least, you tend to feel that way. You’re not immediately sure what they will do with the organization or what new changes they will bring. Often, we are just uneasy for no reason. Our successors often turn out to do as good of a job if no better than their predecessors (us).
We place a high value of trust in what they do. And this group of rising seniors that we picked is sure to do just that.< want to congratulate everyone who was selected to be on Mortar Board for this coming year. You all will do great and serve Longwood well.
