I am from the rural dirt roads of Botetourt County, Virginia. I choose Longwood because of its size and friendly atmosphere. I am heavily involved in my school and community both here in Farmville and back home in Eagle Rock, Virginia.

I serve as News Editor for The Rotunda, the student newspaper here on campus, and have been writing for the paper since March 2009. I am also a Sergeant-At-Arms for the Longwood University Judicial Board. I have spent this summer discovering the world of online freelance journalism and have quite enjoyed myself.

Birthdays

21.

It’s an age that has a lot of different connotations. Most of them are negative in nature. I just turned 21 and honestly, I feel older. I saw it as something psychological at first, knowing that it was my birthday my mind just seemed like I was aging an entire year in a day. But throughout the day, I got more tired, more sore and had less time.

Then I realized it was just like any other day.

I celebrated the night with a couple old (post-graduate) friends in Richmond at the nearest Friday’s we could find. I had an excellent time and was able to come back here and do a bit of homework. Tonight, much of the same, except minus Richmond and post-grads and add Farmville, bowling and a new group of friends.

I just wanted to shout out to everyone who wished me a happy birthday. Thank you all so much and I want you to know it truly means something to have so many great friends. I love you all and I hope that when you’re 21st rolls around, if it hasn’t yet, I’ll buy you something good. Like cheesecake.
