Well, my junior year here at Longwood has been a very interesting one. I met friends who I will not soon forget, had some of the most fun classes I’ve taken in my major (The 400 level English courses are seriously fun, even though they’re tough), and granted, as usual, had to take the bad with the good.
Still, in this past year, a lot of great things have happened and my “family” here at Longwood has blown up! I feel like I can’t even walk across campus without at least recognizing someone…
I joined the radio station, WMLU, and the English honor society, Lambda Iota Tau, and both groups have quickly become dear to my heart. I no longer have any shows left of Surf and Turf with DJ Landshark this year, which makes me sad because I really feel like this show is my baby, which I built up from scratch with nothing but a bit of nerves and a love for my music. Now I honestly feel pride in my own show, as it improved a lot as I got used to being on the air and can’t wait to revive it next year.
I have also had a good time with pretty much all of our traditions… Oktoberfest and Color Wars were great, I got to see The Dangerous Summer and rock out with Scott, including getting signed setlists and nice conversations with the band. Spring Weekend was also fantastic, and although Scott could not make the trip down to Longwood, I still had a blast with all of my friends and even got a great sign courtesy of Lancer Pro that says “LANDSHARK XING” to call back to my nickname that I’ve seriously had since just before I came to Longwood. It just stuck…
Although I’ve faced more stress this year than any other in terms of school work and honestly fear for next year’s workload, I’m surviving… somehow. I will make it through no matter how hard it is.
I may have had my troubles this year in terms of stress and occasional drama, but overall, I rate this year a 7/10.
Next year, I will be back on the blog staff, albeit for the last year, so keep your eyes peeled for more from me.
Have a great, safe, fun summer, everyone.
Peace and love until August,
Averill, AKA @LancerLandshark, AKA DJ Landshark on WMLU
