Hey world, I’m Averill! Some of you already know me from my blog last year, while others probably just found me! To both groups, welcome! This is my second year blogging and my third year at Longwood University. I’m an English major with a concentration in secondary education, which is a fancy way of saying I really want to teach high school English! I’m active in the Honors College, the Anime Club, and am usually somewhere around campus just hanging out or doing whatever needs to be done. Enjoy the blog!

Pre-Turkey Day Fun

First, I want to give massive props to the Longwood Honors Student Association for a great program on Sunday: The Harry Potter Scavenger Hunt!

So, my team didn’t win but I had a lot of fun with four of my close friends dashing around campus in wizard attire answering questions and doing challenges based on Rowling’s series and the accompanying movies. We had so much fun in Team Ravenclaw it might as well have been criminal! Thanks for a great program, HSA!

I got to go home a day early for Thanksgiving, although my car wasn’t particularly nice to me… sigh! Luckily it acted up right in front of Haley’s (one of the car shops in Farmville), so I took it in, waited for a while, and was good to go home. Thanks to the kind folks at the auto mall for the quick and kind service! So I made it home safely, had some of my grandmother’s lasagna and homemade applesauce, and went home to relax after a long day of traveling.

Today, I got to sleep in, which I can safely say I adore, then woke up, had some lunch, and now I am sitting at my father’s job at Louisa Middle School helping him with math classes. Mind you, as an English fan, math isn’t really my thing, but this gives me some help with preparing me for my hope of becoming a teacher in my post-Longwood years. I may want to teach high school English, but I think I can handle helping my father teach middle school algebra. The students are a little loud but they seem to be good people and, considering the crazy schedule Louisa’s been on since the Mineral earthquake, they are handling everything quite well. Kudos to my father and his students!
