Tomorrow begins the wonder, the spectacle that is Longwood’s own Oktoberfest! The booths are up, the stages are up, the campus is buzzing, and I am sure that wherever they keep the paint, it’s ready to be thrown ALL OVER!
Color Wars tomorrow is gonna be great, but my class (Green Class, made up of people graduating in odd years) is going to lose… the class with the seniors (i.e. Red Class, made up of people graduating in even years) always wins. The real fun is the competition and, of course, making a big mess out of trash cans full of red and green paint! I can’t wait to team up with my freshman and junior friends to take the sophomores and seniors on! I’m totally hunting down my best friends in opposite years and painting them green, just for fun!
I plan on following that up with a much-needed shower, meeting Scott (Even people from other colleges like Longwood’s festivals… now if only my best friends from home could come too! …They’re going to make it before I graduate, and that’s final! Lol), and hitting WMLU’s Battle of the Bands for long enough to see one of my friends perform (Break a leg, Cheryl! Everyone should go see her belt it out and play her ukelele.), then Scott and I are going out, catching some dinner together, and hanging with my friends all evening. It’s great how things like Oktoberfest bring most of my friends together at once… that doesn’t happen when everyone’s busy!
Anyway, the booths are up on Saturday, where you can buy some food (Shameless props! The Honors Student Association is selling cookies and playing a trivia game at their booth and the Anime Club sells rice balls, other goodies, and has the best face painter on campus–she even works for King’s Dominion’s face painting area over her breaks!), get awesome stuff, and play games for most of the day! The booths are always fun and really social–you see everyone there! I will be walking around and chatting with people when I’m not in the HSA booth, so if you see me, feel free to say hey.
All day, there will be concerts, but nothing against most of the bands or their fans, but I’m most excited for The Dangerous Summer, which is a really awesome alt-rock band with a relatively new album out that they’re promoting. Go check them out, they’re a REALLY great band!
I also have really sad news. Our headliner, Augustana, broke up this week! But fear not, this is their last show, so we can still see them. Go check them out, their last show will likely be a piece of history in the making and, while I am not particularly well-versed in their music, I heard they’re great and seeing them on the last chance we may ever have to see them is going to be interesting.
Sunday, everything is calm, so take the time to rest and do some homework… or, in the case of many of us, including me, say goodbye to visitors, then catch up on the work!
EVERYONE HAVE FUN THIS WEEKEND! …And be safe. That’s just as important, if not more. Peace and love!
