Hey world, I’m Averill! Some of you already know me from my blog last year, while others probably just found me! To both groups, welcome! This is my second year blogging and my third year at Longwood University. I’m an English major with a concentration in secondary education, which is a fancy way of saying I really want to teach high school English! I’m active in the Honors College, the Anime Club, and am usually somewhere around campus just hanging out or doing whatever needs to be done. Enjoy the blog!

How about some Surf and Turf?

So another WMLU prop blog… I really don’t know why it took me so long to get around to joining the station, it’s been fantastic fun so far!

This one is about my own show. It’s actually a little nerve-wracking knowing that so many people listen to my sets, but it also makes me excited and happy that people like my music and my show. Last week was the inaugural show for Surf and Turf with DJ Landshark, which airs from 8-9 PM on Sunday nights on WMLU’s webstream (wmlu.org) or 91.3 FM in the Farmville area. It had a few hiccups because of it being the first show, but it was a great start. I really feel like joining WMLU is one of the better choices I’ve made since coming to college. Not only are the people amazing, but it’s pretty liberating to have an outlet for my passion for rock music.

Speaking of WMLU, who here knows about the wonderful WMLU Spring Weekend tradition of Bandfest? They just announced the bands this week and the headliners are Streetlight Manifesto and Shiny Toy Guns. That’s just awesome! There’s a facebook page with the full lineup, though, it’s not just those two bands. Now I just can’t wait for Lancer Productions to drop a list of the Spring Weekend Saturday bands. I bet the headliner is gonna be amazing, last year they got CARTEL!

…Yeah, I am in a springy and musical mood, how could you all tell? ;)

Outside of my musical world as DJ Landshark, I’m coming down off of two to three incredibly busy weeks, so it feels good to be able to relax a bit before spring break. I still wish we had the same spring break as some other colleges, but I have plans for the week that will keep me busy and happy. :D I hope everyone who reads this has a safe spring break and safe travels and a good pre-break week!
