Hey world, I’m Averill! Some of you already know me from my blog last year, while others probably just found me! To both groups, welcome! This is my second year blogging and my third year at Longwood University. I’m an English major with a concentration in secondary education, which is a fancy way of saying I really want to teach high school English! I’m active in the Honors College, the Anime Club, and am usually somewhere around campus just hanging out or doing whatever needs to be done. Enjoy the blog!

Books, Breaks, ‘n’ Rock and Roll

Hey all! I had the unfortunate timing of getting quite sick last week thanks in part to a poorly timed immune system and lack of sleep, but I am back. I had a mediocre spring break week because it ended up just being me at home for a lot of it, but the end of the week and the weekend were great.

Thursday, I repped Longwood at my old high school and, despite a few people who didn’t pay attention (oh, high school!), I feel like the friend of mine I did it with (who I don’t know if she wants her name on the blog or not, so I won’t reveal it) and I made some difference in the opinions and myths of college and then helping people see Longwood as an awesome school! And to anyone who came here from the links I gave out at Orange, HI!

Friday through Monday morning, I went on down to Radford and had a weekend with new friends down there, Scott (but of course), and ROCK MUSIC! Scott, two of his friends, and I all went to a show down in North Carolina to see Go Radio, Runner Runner, Anarbor, Valencia, and A Rocket To The Moon, where we had a fantastic time, rocked out, danced, met band members (including one of my favorite rock vocalists, Jason Lancaster of Go Radio. That voice… SWOON.), and then laughed all night long on the way home. I collapsed back into Scott’s bed at about 4 AM only to wake up at 6, chug a Monster and eat some not-so-great donuts (Sorry, gas station off of 81, but those were not delicious mini donuts that you sold), leave at 7, and blast my own rock music on the way home to Longwood. By 10, when I got back (with my car, it’s so good to finally have it here!), I was wired enough to handle a midterm in my 11 o’clock and then my classes. I was tired, but I REGRET NOTHING. Readers, a bit of advice… I don’t advocate idiocy, but college is about the opportunities you take, not the ones you miss out on. Analyze whether you can do fun things carefully if there is a risk (i.e. midterm on roughly 2-2.5 hours of sleep), but don’t be afraid to live. I almost backed out and am so glad I didn’t when it meant a ton of new friends and a rock concert I will never forget.

I got back, did two midterms on two different days, and then fell ill. I was kind of draggy all week, but now I am back to being fine. I’m doing a lot of resting, reading, art (I’m feeling artistic for once), and listening to even more rock.

Last night I also met up with my roommate and suitemates for next year, and I have to say it feels good to know I’ll be living with some friends and that we have things sorted out… then my roommate, one of my best friends, and I had a movie marathon until 12:30 at night… Juno and The Omen, what a unique double feature! XD

Anyway, back to rocking out because I love rock music the way a lot of people love their own preferred genre, and I don’t think I could survive college without all of the myriad of subgenres of rock that make me incredibly happy. So I’m gonna go on back to rocking since there’s not too much else to say and I will try not to be all delayed on my blogging again!
